The Worcester & Hampshire Senate District (redistricted in 2021) is a seat that Democrats held (until last November) for 50 years. Why? It's not because our voters are complacent. It's because Democrats are there for all the people they represent, not just for special interests. Our communities, our residents, our voters knew, saw, and experienced that dedication - in Anne Gobi, in Steve Brewer, in Harriette Chandler, in Bob Wetmore.
My focus and passion is local government, the front line of representing people. I am a firm believer that it is local government that builds strong communities. A state senator should be the voice for every resident in those communities - and should advocate, forcefully when needed, to get those residents what they need from the Boston-centric Statehouse to support strong communities.
My municipal record includes successful local and state-level advocacy for desperately needed changes to the state education foundation formula; fully funded regional transportation; water protection; sewer infrastructure; public safety; public works; good community policing; rural aid; support & protection for our communities' "third places" - our libraries, senior centers, parks, conservation land; affordable housing; municipal infrastructure, and support for our local businesses and the jobs they provide.
I do not take asking for your support in this race for the Massachusetts State Senate lightly. Serving this district, and representing its people as your Senator with a goal of tangible results, is at the core of this campaign. Over the next several weeks, I'll be highlighting some specific issues here in greater detail.
Thank you for giving me the chance to earn your vote.
